Overview
There has been a marked change in naming conventions for pharmaceutical products over the years, with catchy names corresponding with the bestselling status of certain drugs or striking names finding favour over the more sober and serious names chosen usually.
While brand development often used to be reserved for over-the-counter (OTC) products, strategic brand management has now become a must for prescription products as well. The brand management process must begin before the product has been authorised and continue after the patent has expired.
Most drugs will have a chemical, international non-proprietary name (INN) and a brand name. Packaging and advertising for regulated medicines include both the INN and brand name of which the latter may be protected as a trademark. There are many benefits to securing trademark registration, including exclusivity in the name, brand/quality recognition and longevity.
Marketing Authorisation Holder
A Marketing Authorisation Holder (MAH) is a company, firm or non-profit organisation that has been granted a marketing authorisation. The marketing authorisation allows the holder to market a specific medicinal product, in any given country.
MEX Pharma will take on all the duties and responsibilities of a marketing authorisation holder for manufacturers and distributors, either for a specific period of time or permanently, depending on the clients needs.
